February 2014: Safe Harbor Pictures presents project Sail Away at the 41st Annual Conference on Sail Training and Tall Ships in San Diego.
Composer David James Neilsen wrote and recorded the music for the Sail Away promo video. Previous collaborations with Safe Harbor Co-Founders Robert Margouleff and Dan Kavanaugh include the original score for the film Tall Ships: Privateer Lynx.
About David Nielsen:
David James Nielsen was born in 1977 in Calgary in the Canadian province of Alberta, and entered the musical world playing piano at age 6. He began composing at 15 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music from the University of Calgary. From 1997 to 2003, David served as Composer in Residence at Calgary’s Pleiades Theatre/Vertigo Mystery Theatre, where he scored numerous theatrical plays.
In 2003, David earned a certificate in Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television from the University of Southern California, where he was honored with the Harry Warren Scholarship Award. His teachers there included Academy Award nominee David Raksin, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Christopher Young, Jack Smalley and Grammy Award winner Joe Harnell.
David has scored or provided music for such films as Reclaiming the Blade (documentary), Tall Ships: Privateer Lynx (documentary), Haunting Villisca (feature), Tales From Beyond (feature), as well as for the syndicated television series Animal Exploration With Jarod Miller. David has worked on the popular TV series Star Trek: Enterprise, the National Geographic/PBS special Eden at the End of the World and the television movies Silent Witness, The Tenth Circle, Flight 93 and Faith of My Fathers, to name a few.
David currently works as an Associate Course Director within the the Music Production Department at Full Sail University, teaching students who are earning their Bachelor of Science Degrees in Music Production.
